Tamara Blaes
Rural Postsecondary & Economic Development Grant Director
Tamara Blaes is our Rural Postsecondary & Economic Development Grant Director. She has been a Business & Computer Technology professor at Independence Community College for the past 13 years. She holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in Business Education from Emporia State University. Along with teaching at ICC, Blaes has maintained a web design business in which she volunteers her knowledge in website building with many friends and relatives. She plans to continue to teach a few classes online for ICC in the Business and Computer areas. Blaes is married to her husband, Jim, and they live on 15 acres in Cherryvale full of blueberry, raspberry, and blackberry bushes, cherry, apple, pear, plum, and many nut trees. They have two Dachshunds, Scooter & Nala, a German Shepherd Dog, Darby, and two cats, Mufasa and Holly Belle. Blaes and her husband both attended Cherryvale High School and ICC. Blaes also has a son, Riley, who attended Cherryvale High School, ICC, and Washburn University where he graduated with a Psychology degree and two minors in Communication and Marketing. Blaes’ parents as well as her mother-in-law all live in Cherryvale. Tamara loves to quilt in her spare time.
