ICC Names Anderson as Interim Athletic Director

Independence Community College (ICC) is pleased to announce that Melissa Anderson has been named the Interim Athletic Director. Anderson assumed the position after the resignation of the previous Director, Eric Figurski. 

"I am truly delighted to have Coach Anderson directing the future of our athletic programs," said Dr. Vincent Bowhay, ICC President. "She is a collaborative and passionate leader who is committed to the success of our students inside and outside of the classroom."

Anderson joined the Pirate family in 2021 as Head Volleyball Coach. She previously served as both a JUCO and NCAA Division II Head Coach at Otero Junior College and East Central University. At Otero Junior College, Anderson notched 177 total wins over eight seasons, registering five seasons with 19 or more wins. She also produced 19 All-Region players, 42 All-Region Academic players, and 9 Academic All-Americans while maintaining a 3.14 team GPA while in La Junta, Colorado.

"I am grateful and thankful for this opportunity to serve ICC and our student-athletes in this role," said Anderson. "My goal is to continue to build positive relationships with the Athletic Department and create lasting partnerships to help serve our students and community."

Anderson has her Master's in Education, emphasizing in Sports Administration, and her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from East Central University. 

"ICC is committed to the success of our students," concluded Bowhay. "Coach Anderson will provide the passion and strategic vision needed to support our student-athletes, connect with our community and continue to strengthen our athletic programs."
