Independence Community College is pleased to honor Assistant Football Coach Keith Donerson as the 2022 ICC staff recipient of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drum Major for Justice Award. The award recognizes individuals who consistently demonstrate greatness through service and love. The award is presented to one ICC Student, one ICC employee, and one Independence, KS community member. White was nominated for this honor by Eric Figurski, ICC Athletic Director.
“Coach D Embodies everything that this award represents,” said Figurski. Throughout his career at ICC, the CCCAA, and Dominguez High School, in Compton, California, he has led an authentic life of service that has undoubtedly improved the lives of so many others along his path, spanning past and present generations.”
During his time at ICC, Donerson has contributed to three Conference Championships, helped 44 student-athletes sign on to Division I Programs, and helped countless other students graduate and move on to four-year programs.
“I am fortunate to call him a friend and a mentor,” concludes Figurski. “He is one of the best coaches in the country, in the truest sense of the job description.”
