White Receives Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drum Major for Justice Award

Independence Community College is pleased to honor Mary-Lynn White, from Oswego, KS, as the 2022 ICC student recipient of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drum Major for Justice Award. The award recognizes individuals who consistently demonstrate greatness through service and love. The award is presented to one ICC Student, one ICC employee, and one Independence, KS community member. White was nominated for this honor by Marge Yaroslaski, ICC Communications Professor.

“She works hard to ensure voices are heard and respected,” said Yaroslaski. “She is clear about her values and attempts to live by them every day but is deeply respectful that others may hold other values.”

White attends ICC on a Theatre Performance scholarship, is a student tutor, and is an active member of the Student Government Association and Phi Theta Kappa.

“This award recognizes extraordinary individuals that go above and beyond to serve others but are seldomly recognized for their work,” said David Adams, Vice President for Student Affairs. “Mary-Lynn is an excellent example of that.”
