Rutherford injury postpones Les Mis

Independence, Kansas—February 23, 2017—The Independence Community College (ICC) theater department has announced the postponement of the spring production of Les Misérables.

Originally slated for an early May 2017 opening, the play will now open in the spring (2018).

The opening date became a concern when Eric Rutherford, the producer and lead actor and in the play, was injured in an accident last weekend.

“Les Misérables was a dream project Eric, Michelle (Rutherford, music director), and I developed together, as an opportunity for our students and the community to work with us on challenging material, and a great story", said Karen Carpenter, theater director. "We did not want to proceed without them. We look forward to producing this piece next spring, when Eric is able."

The cast of ICC students and community members, who have been rehearsing the music for the past month, will present a medley from Les Miserable later this spring.
