Makenttis Adams Named April 2025 Student of the Month

Student of the Month with Board of Trustees and President

Independence Community College is pleased to announce that ICC student athlete Makenttis Adams has been selected as the April 2025 Student of the Month. Adams exemplifies dedication, hard work, and sportsmanship both on and off the field, making him a standout member of the ICC family. He was honored during Monday night's board meeting.

“Makenttis is dedicated to organizing his assignments, breaking tasks into steps, and is making enormous progress through the work he's doing,” said Bridget Carson, Associate Professor of Developmental English and Adams’ nominator, praised his commitment to academic success:  “Watching his confidence grow as he works with our Pirate Family network of support, including coaches, tutors, and faculty, is a joy to behold.”

Makenttis expressed his gratitude for the support he has received since transferring to ICC in January. “I have enjoyed my time at ICC since I transferred here. Everyone has been so helpful and kind and has made me feel so welcomed on campus. My coaches and teachers have shown me nothing but love since I've arrived and have made campus feel like a home away from home.”

Makenttis is a freshman from Topeka, Kansas, and is a proud graduate of Washburn Rural High School. He hopes to play football in the fall. His achievements reflect the values of ICC and the supportive environment that fosters student success.
