Independence Community College (ICC) is proud to announce that Lauren Hugo and Tinevimbo Makurira have been selected as members of the Phi Theta Kappa All-Kansas Academic Team.

The Phi Theta Kappa All-Kansas Academic Team honors high-achieving college students who exemplify exceptional academic excellence, intellectual rigor, leadership, and a commitment to service that extends beyond the classroom to benefit society. Hugo and Makurira shine as prime examples of these qualities and more.

“This year both of our All-Kansas Academic Team Honorees have worked so hard, both inside and outside the classroom to maintain excellent grades while also making an impact on their community,” said Anita Chappuie, ICC PTK Advisor. “Tinevimbo works both as a peer tutor on campus and as a CNA in a local nursing home. Lauren has been a part of every ICC Theatre production since she’s been here, and this last semester has traveled all over SEK as a part of the Romeo & Juliet cast with the Shakespeare to Schools Initiative.”

Honorees of the Phi Theta Kappa All-Kansas Academic Team are selected based on their academic performance, leadership abilities, and involvement in community service. The recognition of Hugo and Makurira as members of this esteemed group underscores their commitment to academic excellence and their dedication to making a positive difference in their community.

“I’m so proud and impressed with the amount of time and effort both of these students have put into improving their community while also adhering to the highest academic standards,” concluded Chappuie.
