"What Were You Wearing?" Exhibit Shines a Light on Sexual Assault

Exhibit

This week, in observance of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, ICC Student Affairs hosted a powerful exhibit in the Academic Building titled “What Were You Wearing?” The exhibit, which ran from April 7th – 10th, is a collaborative effort to raise awareness and help end sexual and domestic violence.

“I knew that I wanted to create an exhibit like this for ICC for Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and I am so thankful to partner with Luke Blevins for the wall displays so that everyone had the opportunity to view it,” explains Erica Cope, Student Life Manager at ICC. “Displays like this are important because they raise awareness, foster empathy, and debunk myths about sexual violence.”

“What Were You Wearing?” is a moving exhibition featuring recreations of the clothing worn by local sexual assault survivors at the time of their assaults. Each piece tells a powerful story, challenging the victim-blaming narratives survivors often endure when they come forward.
