ICC Fine Arts is thrilled to announce that Dr. Janet 성은 Kim, Director of Wind Bands and Coordinator of Large Instrumental Ensembles at the University of Connecticut, will be a featured guest at the upcoming ICC Band Clinic. The clinic will provide an invaluable opportunity for student musicians to learn from a nationally recognized leader in music education.

Dr. Kim brings a wealth of experience and expertise to ICC. In their role at the University of Connecticut, they conduct the UConn Symphonic Wind Ensemble and teach courses in Woodwind Techniques, advanced instrumental conducting, instrumental pedagogy, and wind literature. They also oversee graduate studies in wind conducting.

Prior to UConn, Dr. Kim served as the Director of Instrumental Activities and Assistant Professor of Music at Nebraska Wesleyan University. They hold a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Conducting from The Herb Alpert School of Music at the University of California, Los Angeles, as well as degrees from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Montclair State University.

"We are incredibly excited to welcome Dr. Kim to Independence Community College," said Brandon Halberg, Director of Instrumental Music at ICC. "As a fellow member of the University of Connecticut community, I know firsthand the exceptional talent and dedication Dr. Kim brings to music education. Their passion for music, commitment to diversity and inclusion, and extensive experience working with young musicians will make this clinic an unforgettable experience for our students."

Dr. Kim's career began as a band director in New Jersey public schools, and they have since become a sought-after guest conductor and clinician, working with honor bands, clinics, workshops, and festivals across the United States, Canada, and South Korea. They are a passionate advocate for diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and access in music education, and their work in quality programming has been featured at The Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic.
