The Delaware Tribe of Indians Family and Children Services (DTIFCS) will begin offering on-site office hours at ICC Main Campus to provide education, resources, and support related to domestic violence and sexual assault awareness.

A representative will be available in the basement of the Student Union every Tuesday and Thursday from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

“The Mobile Domestic Violence Intervention Advocate will be able to help students who are experiencing a domestic violence situation and provide them with resources such as Safety Planning, Needs Assessment, understanding the legal process and much more,” explained David Adams Vice President for Student Affairs. “In addition, this Advocate will be able to proactively offer domestic violence intervention educational resources and workshops to faculty, staff and students.”

The initiative aims to educate ICC students and faculty about domestic violence and sexual assault, empowering them to recognize warning signs and access vital resources. Additional services provided will include assistance with protective orders, support systems, and referrals to appropriate resources based on individual needs.

"Our goal is to educate the younger generation to recognize domestic violence, sexual harassment, and sexual assault, as well as the warning signs so that later in life they won't fall into those environments," said Amber Bell, Domestic Violence Advocate for DTIFCS. "We want to empower them to help themselves and their friends, while also providing preventative measures through education. Additionally, we want to be here as a resource for any student or community member who finds themselves in a domestic violence or sexual assault situation, offering support and guidance to ensure their safety and well-being."

The DTIFCS main office is in Caney, KS. By establishing a presence on the ICC campus, the organization seeks to increase awareness and accessibility of its services to the college community.

"Education is key to all things," Bell added. "The more students know and the more resources they have access to, the better prepared they will be when they go out into the world."
