College to Honor Dr. Richard Schooler as Distinguished Alumni on February 8th

Independence Community College is proud to announce Dr. Richard Schooler as this year’s Distinguished Alumni, who will be recognized during the Pirates’ home basketball game against Cloud Community College on Saturday, February 8th. This special event is generously sponsored by Quality Toyota.

The evening will include a celebration of Dr. Schooler’s exceptional accomplishments and contributions. Guests are invited to enjoy food and drinks in the Heritage Room, available before and during the game. The pre-game refreshments and meal are free for Booster Club members and $10 for non-members. Dr. Schooler will be honored during a special presentation at halftime of the men’s game.

Dr. Richard Schooler: A Legacy of Excellence
Dr. Schooler graduated from Independence Community College in May of 1975, where he was a standout student-athlete. He was a Basketball Letterman during the 1972-73 and 1973-74 seasons and a member of the ICC Baseball team during the 1973-74 season.

Dr. Schooler currently serves as Vice President of the Farber-McIntire Campus in Joplin for Kansas City University (KCU), where he provides strategic leadership and oversees community relations, philanthropic outreach, academic support, and day-to-day operations.

With nearly 40 years of experience, Dr. Schooler has excelled as a physician, health care executive, and educator. His impressive career includes serving as dean of the School of Health Sciences at Missouri Southern State University and as executive vice president and chief operating officer at Freeman Health System. Additionally, Dr. Schooler practiced obstetrics and gynecology for nearly 20 years before transitioning into health care administration.

Dr. Schooler, a 1980 graduate of KCU, received the KCU Alumni Service Award in 2015 and is also the author of Planning for Organizational Success: A Leadership Guide to Achieving Success with a Plan.
