ICC is excited to announce a groundbreaking initiative aimed at supporting the educational goals of Independence city employees. Starting in January 2025, ICC will offer a 100% reduction in tuition, along with a complete waiver of Facilities, Technology, Student Union, and Security fees for all qualifying city employees enrolled in degree or certificate programs.

“This program is a reflection of our dedication to making education accessible and supporting the professional growth of those who serve our community every day,” said Dr. Jonathan Sadhoo, ICC President. “By investing in the education and development of city employees, we hope to enhance the skillsets of our workforce while strengthening our partnership between the college and the community. This initiative demonstrates our commitment to empowering individuals and creating a positive impact on Independence as a whole.”

This program underscores ICC's commitment to fostering professional development and enhancing its partnership with the City of Independence. By removing significant financial barriers, ICC aims to empower city employees to expand their skills and knowledge, ultimately benefiting the community at large.

“At the City of Independence, we are thrilled to partner with Independence Community College to offer free tuition for our employees’ continuing education pursuits,” said Kelly Passauer, Independence City Manager. “In a small, rural community like ours, it’s so vitally important that we invest in our workforce to ensure they have opportunities to learn, grow, and apply their skills in meaningful work right here in their hometown. It has long been our practice at the City of Independence to offer our employees opportunities to advance their skills in hopes of enhancing job satisfaction and, in turn, retaining our staff for the long term. We appreciate that ICC has recognized the value of home-grown talent and is smoothing the path to advanced education for the community.”

While tuition and major fees are fully covered, participating students will still be responsible for other expenses, including course-specific fees, academic and vocational materials, administrative costs, and book charges.

City employees interested in taking advantage of this program are encouraged to explore the wide range of degree and certificate options available at ICC. From technical training to academic programs, ICC has something for everyone looking to advance their education and career.
