The ICC Theatre Department invites the community to kick off the holiday season with a beloved classic, A Christmas Carol, directed by Dee Byrd-Molnar. This festive production will take place at Memorial Hall and is free to the public. The show will open with a special student matinee on Thursday, December 19th, at 9 a.m., followed by evening performances on Friday, December 20th, and Saturday, December 21st, at 7 p.m., and a matinee on Sunday, December 22nd, at 2 p.m.
ICC’s A Christmas Carol is based on the adaptation written by Howard Dallin, which has captivated audiences for decades at the Playhouse in Cincinnati, Ohio. ICC’s Director of Theatre Performance, Paul Molnar, secured the rights to bring this fast-paced, family-friendly version to Independence, marking its first performance outside of Ohio. The production features a talented cast of ICC students, community members, and faculty, with Molnar stepping into the role of the iconic Ebenezer Scrooge.
“We are so excited to be able to present A Christmas Carol directed by Dee Byrd-Molnar at Memorial Hall,” said Paul Molnar. “This adaptation, written by Howard Dallin, offers a spirited and engaging take on Dickens’ classic. It’s thrilling to bring this version to Independence, and our cast and crew have poured their hearts into making it a memorable holiday experience for everyone.”
Director Dee Byrd-Molnar added, “This is one of my favorite plays. A lost soul, Ebenezer Scrooge, finds redemption, and it has always made me feel as if there is hope. The words of Marley’s Ghost—‘Mankind was my business. The common welfare was my business; charity, mercy, forbearance, benevolence, were all my business…’—remind us of the compassion and kindness that should define the holiday season. This is my hope for this Christmas.”
ICC invites families, friends, and community members to attend this heartwarming production and share in the joy of A Christmas Carol. Join us for an evening of holiday spirit and storytelling that’s sure to leave audiences inspired and full of cheer.
