College Honors Exceptional Student Leaders at 2024 Student Leadership Awards

ICC proudly hosted the 2024 Student Leadership Awards ceremony on Wednesday, May 1st, recognizing outstanding individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership within the college community and beyond.

David Adams, Vice President for Student Affairs, opened the ceremony with enthusiasm, highlighting the importance of acknowledging student achievements. "ICC students accomplish so much throughout the year, and it is vital to take time to celebrate their success," remarked Adams.

The ceremony commenced with the prestigious presentation of the Martin Luther King Jr. Drum Major for Justice awards, honoring individuals who exemplify dedication to service. Among the esteemed recipients were:

  • Audrey Cranford - Recognized for her compassion and dedication as a student leader, Audrey's unwavering commitment to supporting her peers and promoting campus initiatives has left a lasting impact on the ICC community.
  • Kari Barrera - A devoted educator and advocate for student success, Kari's tireless efforts in expanding literacy and supporting students through the Student Support Services program have earned her recognition as a beacon of inspiration.
  • Lesley Simpson - Remembered for her selfless acts of kindness and unwavering commitment to serving others, Lesley's legacy of compassion and generosity continues to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.

In addition to the MLK Drum Major for Justice awards, students were honored for their outstanding academic achievements and leadership contributions in various departments, including theater, Trio Program, athletics, esports, Quiz Bowl, and Phi Theta Kappa.

Notable awards included:

  • Molly Gray - Distinguished Leadership Award in Theater
  • Jeremiah Palmer - SSS TRIO Leadership Award
  • Damien Ordonez - SSS TRIO Academic Achiever
  • Jonna Westman -  Resident Assistant of the Year
  • Mija Carlson and Tucker Engstrom - Honored as part of the prestigious Phi Theta Kappa All-Kansas Academic Team.

The ceremony also recognized outstanding athletes for their exemplary performance and dedication to their respective sports through the Team MVP awards.
