Independence Community College Fine Arts is pleased to announce the return of The 24 Hour Plays®, featuring talented high school students from the local area. The performance is scheduled for August 19 at 7 p.m. in The William Inge Theatre, and admission is free.
The 24 Hour Plays® experience begins on Friday, August 18, with auditions by the actors. The playwrights and directors then select their cast, and the writers embark on an overnight creative journey to craft their 10-minute plays. By the following morning, the scripts are ready, and actors and directors begin rehearsals. Finally, at 7 p.m. on Saturday night, the brand-new plays are performed in front of a live audience.
The unconventional time constraints create a tremendous amount of energy. Despite having only one day to memorize lines, create characters, and learn their blocking, the actors perform the plays without scripts in hand.
"This year's 24 Hour Plays marks the 21st celebration of this wonderful tradition, “said Paul Molnar, Director of Theatre Performance. “Bringing together high school students and their teachers from across our region to collaborate on creating new plays is truly a unique opportunity. ICC always looks forward to hosting this event and we hope our community will join us as we celebrate these young artists."
