Martin Resigns as ICC Head Football Coach

Jason Martin is resigning from his position as Head Football Coach at Independence Community College, effective immediately, to pursue another coaching opportunity. Martin recently completed his seventh season, his third as Head Coach, with the Indy Pirates. Previously, he had served as Defensive Coordinator and Secondary Coach for four seasons.

"Words cannot express how thankful we are to Coach Martin for his service to ICC, his student-athletes, and the Independence community," said ICC Athletic Director Melissa Anderson. "He was a selfless, loyal leader whose presence will be missed."

As Head Coach, Martin ends his tenure at the helm for the Pirates with a 17-9 overall record and a Jayhawk Conference Championship in 2021.

The 2021 campaign marked Martin's best with an 8-2 record and the aforementioned championship. That was followed by a downturn in 2022 with a 4-5 record, though notable victories were attained over Dodge City and rival Coffeyville.

Leading the Pirates' defense, Martin had over 30 athletes move on to NCAA Division-I programs, included but not limited to Georgia, Washington State, Colorado, Cal, and Tennessee.

Prior to his time in Independence, Martin served as Secondary Coach at Garden City and as Quality Control Defensive Backs Coach at UCLA.

"I would like to thank Coach Martin for his many contributions to ICC. He has represented ICC football with an unwavering commitment to his student-athletes," said President, Dr. Vincent Bowhay. "He will forever be a part of the Pirate family and I wish him the best on his next steps."

Keith Donerson has been named Interim Head Coach. Indy Pirates Athletics will begin a nationwide search immediately for its next Head Football Coach.
