ICC & IHS Joint Chorale Concert on March 2

The Fine Arts Department invites the public to the ICC & IHS Joint Chorale Concert on Thursday, March 2, at 7 PM at the Independence High School Performing Arts Center; free admission.

Performing will be the IHS Mixed Chorus, IHS Concert Choir, IHS, Indy Ensemble, and the ICC Chorale under the direction of Christopher Kurt, IHS Vocal Music Director, and Zachary Cooke, ICC Vocal Music Director.

"All three of the IHS Choirs will perform a wide array of choral literature, ranging from mass works to modern pieces in multiple languages, including Latin, Sanskrit, old English, and Spanish," explains Kurt. "However, the choral staple "River in Judea" will be the best piece we perform. The ICC Choir and the IHS Choirs will combine and end our concert with this piece under the direction of Mr. Cooke. This concert starts a great connection between the ICC and IHS choir program!"

The ICC Chorale will perform contemporary classical choral literature featuring composers Victor C. Johnson, Mark A. Miller, and John Leavitt. These pieces will feature an array of extravagant musical harmonies, including tempo and melody-driven selections.

"I am beyond ecstatic to have the opportunity to conduct a joint concert with Mr. Christopher Kurt," concluded Cooke. "It's amazing to work in a community where a fellow choral conductor shares the same ambitions to pursue high-quality musical experiences while expressing choral music's complexity and intricate passion to the students. Featuring choirs from IHS and ICC, the town of Independence will witness a high-octane musical explosion that will exude musicality from start to finish!"
