OPEN CASTING CALL will be held for three roles in William Inge’s play THE DARK AT THE TOP OF THE STAIRS, to be directed by Paul Molnar, during the 40th William Inge Theatre Festival at Independence Community College.
Auditions will be Wednesday, February 15th from 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM at Independence Community College, William Inge Theatre. Those auditioning will read from the script. “The Dark at the Top of the Stairs” premiered on Broadway in 1957 with a cast including Pat Hingle, Theresa Wright, and Eileen Heckart. The 1960 movie included Robert Preston, Dorothy McGuire, Angela Lansbury, Eve Arden, and Shirley Knight. It is considered William Inge’s most biographical work, inspired by his childhood in Independence.
Seeking:
Sonny Flood: a 10-year boy. Soft spoken and stoic. He has a passion for actors and cinema stars. A loner who suffers at the hands of school bullies, an outsider at home, Sonny escapes through his imagination.
Morris Lacey: male, 40s-60s, a house broken husband whose loyalty and love for his wife drive him inward and fuel his loneliness.
Lottie Lacey: female, 30s-50s, an eccentric extrovert who manages her emotions through denial. A lovable partner who has forgotten how to love.
This production will feature two professional actors in the roles of Rubin Flood and Cora Flood, along with four ICC students from the Theatre Department. Rehearsals will begin March 7th and run Mondays-Fridays from 4 PM – 7 PM, and Saturdays from 12 PM – 4 PM. This production will be featured at the 40th William Inge Theatre Festival honoring Independence native son and award-winning writer William Inge. The Festival takes place April 20 to 22 in Independence.
