2019-2022 Poet Laureate of Kansas to Speak at Graduation

ICC is holding the Fall Commencement Ceremony on December 6, 2022, in the William Inge Theatre. The ceremony will start at 6:00 p.m., and admission is free.

This year’s Honorary Speaker will be Huascar Medina, the 7th Poet Laureate of Kansas. Medina is an author and editor. He is the Lit Editor for seveneightfive magazine, creator/host of Kansas is Lit on 785live.com, a staff editor at South Broadway Press, a Sunday columnist at the Kansas Reflector, a 2022 Academy of AmericanPoets’ Poet Laureate Fellow, and a member of the National Council on the Arts. Medina has published two books of poetry; Un Mango Grows in Kansas and How to Hang the Moon.

Currently, Medina empowers artists through professional development as an Artist Services Program Associate for Artist INC, a program of Mid-America Arts Alliance, a regional art organization serving Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, and beyond.
