2022 Faculty and Staff Awards Announced

Independence Community College is pleased to announce the Faculty and Staff Award winners for the 2021-2022 academic year. Award nominations were submitted by ICC faculty, staff, and administration.  Staff was also recognized for their years of service milestones.

ICC Faculty and Staff Awards:


The Spirit Award: Terri Barbera

The Spirit Award honors an ICC employee whose hard work consistently, passionately, and at times with personal sacrifice, to serve our community and promote improvement in Independence, Kansas. The honoree promotes goodwill through his/her charitable works within the community.

The Cornerstone Award: The Fine Arts Department

The Cornerstone Award honors distinguished committee or group leadership. Nominees have tirelessly promoted the cause for which their committee or group was established. Their efforts have, likewise, promoted Independence Community College in the global community and exemplifies the confidence in the future of the people and the institution of Independence Community College. Nominees are those groups of faculty and staff who have been examples of leadership, innovation and involvement on the ICC campus. The nominee must have a record of faithfully supporting activities that develop itself as a committee or group and that help to further develop ICC.

The Master Staffer Award: Sonja Conley

The Master Staffer Award honors an ICC employee who has been actively employed by ICC for a minimum of two (2) years and has consistently exhibited character, which witnesses strength and inclination for action. This individual’s remarkable commitment has resulted in improvement in the goodwill and spirit, as well as the institution, of Independence Community College. The nominee must have displayed leadership both within the ICC community and the community of Independence, Kansas.

The Mission Award: Taylor Crawshaw, Keith Donnerson, Maudia Kistler, Paul Molnar

The Mission Award honors a faculty or staff member who exemplifies the mission statement of Independence Community College in their work.

The mission statement reads: Independence Community College serves the best interests of students and the community by providing academic excellence while promoting cultural enrichment and economic development.
