'Price is Right' Financial Aid Event Promotes Financial Literacy

Independence Community College hosted the annual 'Price is Right' Financial Literacy Event on April 1 on the Main Campus. Area high school students learned about college, personal finances, and scholarship opportunities in a fun and interactive format.

Contestants from each school had the opportunity to submit price estimates on various baskets full of common everyday items. The player who submitted the closest bid to the actual retail price of that basket without going over moved on to the next round. The event's overall winner was Samuel Ortiz, from Independence High School.

"Paying for college can be an expensive and intimidating process," explains Laura Allison, Director of Financial Aid. "Educating students about all of their financial aid options is a great way to reduce stress and help families make sound financial decisions in the future."
