Votes Initiative Program selected for NASPA IV -W Innovative Program of the Year Award

Independence Community College is pleased to have been selected for the NASPA IV-W Innovative Program Award with the Votes Initiative Program.  NASPA (Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education) is an organization that is dedicated to fulfilling higher education goals through guiding principles of integrity, innovation, inclusion, and inquiry.

“ICC has a long history of preparing students to be active participants in our democratic society,” said Dr. Vincent Bowhay, ICC President. “I am especially proud that the College is recognized for its work registering students to vote in the 2020 Presidential election. Despite a pandemic, our students made their voices heard on a wide variety of issues, and that is something we should all be proud of.”

ICC is one of over 231 “Voter Friendly” campuses across 37 states. The mission of the Votes Initiative Program is to help students overcome barriers to participating in the political process. Campuses are evaluated based on a campus plan that offers ways for individuals to register, educate, and turn out student voters.
