ICC Welcomes Williams as Associate Professor of Technical Theatre

Independence Community College is pleased to welcome Joel Williams as the new Associate Professor of Technical Theatre. Williams, a Kansas native, spent the last seven years as the Technical Director at Technical Theatre at Woodward Academy. Prior to his time there he served as the Theatrical Designer at Ottawa University.

Williams holds specialties in scenic design and construction, sound design, and mixing.

“Joel has the ideal skillset for technical theatre at ICC— not only are his design credentials impressive, but his focus is on being a teacher first,” said Heather Mydosh, Arts and Humanities Division Head at ICC. “I believe Joel is exactly who we need to match the existing excellence of our theatre performance program, a program with a long and proud history, and push us to the next level. I cannot wait to see both what he designs for this upcoming season and what his students produce. “

Joel holds a bachelor’s degree in Theatre from Ottawa University and a Master of Theatre Studies from Southern Oregon University. Among his favorite productions are Desdemona; a play about a handkerchief, Les Misérables, Radium Girls, Brighton Beach Memoirs, Playing for Time, Into The Woods, and Chicago.

“I am ecstatic to be joining a community that so highly values the arts and supports each other,” said Williams. “I am looking forward to adding my voice to the story of ICC, and joining in shaping its future.”
