Check out the refresh of our community programs

In an effort to refresh and expand its community education offerings, Independence Community College has recently launched the Indy Connect program.

Indy Connect serves as an umbrella for all ICC community outreach programs, including children’s and adult activities and classes both on and off campus. These include the recently launched “Kids College,” featuring a variety of summer camps for children ages 7-12, as well as workforce development courses and certifications; non-credit courses covering areas like soft skills, leadership or basic computer skills; and the ICC NOW program, which offers concurrent, dual credit for high school students.

“Our goal is to provide a consistent and easily accessible schedule of useful courses for community members of all ages all year long,” said Jaicey Gillum, ICC’s Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs.

Gillum explained the recent Kids College children’s workshops – including Baby Sitter Training; Science Fun!; CPR Certification; Get to Know Theatre!; Cheer & Dance Clinic; Photography Basics; and Gaming – were so popular that additional courses are being planned for July. For the adults, a “Charcuterie Board” making class was conducted July 1, and a wine-and-cheese tasting is scheduled at Patio 210 in downtown Independence on July 22.

A key component of Indy Connect is the relaunch of ICC’s workforce development program for which the college hopes to engage area employers.

“ICC is excited to reignite its connection with the community through the Indy Connect program. Our employees have collaborated across departments to plan these courses and I look forward to where that teamwork can take this program.” said, ICC President Dr. Vincent Bowhay.

ICC staff are reaching out to local businesses to discuss what the college can offer to assist them, which could include certifications, evening classes, professional development. A survey for all businesses and employers to provide feedback is live now at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WFiccConnect.
