Independence Community College (ICC) President Daniel Barwick has announced the hiring of Cordell Jordan as the marketing director for ICC. Jordan has significant experience in marketing, communications and strategic planning, particularly in the field of education. Jordan is an ICC alumnus with family roots in southeast Kansas.
“I believe this is a great opportunity for ICC,” Barwick said. “Cordell is an innovative thinker with a gift for launching effective long-term strategy. With a more strategic focus on marketing and communications, I anticipate ICC will experience greater growth and development as an institution.”
Most recently, Jordan served as the executive director of marketing and public relations at Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC), the state’s fourth largest college, serving more than 20,000 students annually. Jordan was responsible for all areas of strategic planning, including facilitating the creation of two of the college’s five-year strategic plans; strategic marketing plans; recruitment planning; crisis communications; and operations planning. During his time in leadership at OCCC, the college experienced double-digit growth in enrollment and year-over-year increases in market share. Throughout his 12-year tenure at OCCC, he also served as the college public information officer and as an adjunct professor of business.
Prior to arriving at OCCC, Cordell served as communications manager at Oklahoma City Public schools, the state’s largest school district, with 45,000 students, 5,000 employees and 92 campuses. He also had a distinguished career working in both radio and television news.
In addition to his associate degree from ICC, Cordell also holds a degree in journalism from the University of Kansas, a degree in marketing from the University of Central Oklahoma and a master’s in business administration from Oklahoma Christian University.
