ICC Fine Arts closes out season with a 'Miserables' bang

The cast of Alain Boublil’s and Claude Michel Schonberg’s, Les Misérables, as performed by the fine arts department at Independence Community College.

Independence, Kansas—March 26, 2018 – The fine arts department at Independence Community College (ICC) ended its season in spectacular fashion with a production of Alain Boublil’s and Claude Michel Schonberg’s, Les Misérables.

The show featured a cast of 40 and an orchestra and crew that easily exceeded 60 people in all.

“We knew an ambitious production like Les Misérables would require a lot of support from the area, and the community really delivered on that,” said Eric Rutherford, director of fine arts department at ICC. “It is quite possibly the most significant theatrical effort in many years in Independence.”

The aspiring Tony Award-winning musical ran for three days to a packed Memorial Hall in downtown Independence, Kansas to wide acclaim from the community, as attendance exceeded 1,600 to the four shows.
