Independence, Kansas—March 8, 2018 – Students in the Independence Community College’s (ICC) Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) honor’s society attended the regional awards ceremony in Lincoln, Nebraska last weekend where the college’s Beta Omega chapter won 13 awards for the year.
Sebastian Henderson, a sophomore from Neosho, Missouri and the Beta Omega Chapter President, was awarded second place in the Distinguished Officer category for his work throughout the year.
In addition to the awards ceremony, incoming and second year PTK members campaigned for regional offices. ICC’s Rebecca Caraballo, a sophomore from Venezuela was elected the Kansas/Nebraska region Vice President of Public Relations.
Odalis Martinez, also a sophomore from Venezuela, used the conference to kick off her campaign to be elected PTK International President, a position that will be filled later this year.
