Last Chance U to feature Independence Community College

Independence, Kansas, August 23, 2017– Netflix, the world’s leading internet television network, has officially announced that Independence Community College (ICC) in Independence, Kansas will be the featured college on the upcoming season of the award-winning, hit docu-series, Last Chance U.

The series chronicles the lives of football players at the junior college level, many of whom have struggled socially or academically at their previous Division I colleges enroute to chasing their dreams of playing professional football.

“Some of these young men have hit the hard reality of life,” said Jason Brown, ICC head coach. “This is their final chance at redemption; a chance to find that one thing that will drive them to succeed.”

Brown is entering his second year at ICC where he turned around a program that had just two winning seasons in 30 years. Coach Brown finished his first year with the Pirates with a 5-4 record and has much higher expectations this year.

“You go into every game expecting to compete and play hard,” said Brown. “With the level of talent we have on this team, I expect nothing less.”

Brown’s recruiting efforts, and track record of helping players reach the next level, have landed him some highly coveted players, including former top high school recruit, Tramonda Moore, an offensive lineman from Oklahoma City, and former Florida State QB, Malik Henry.

It is uncertain which players will be featured in the series, but production has begun in Independence and the narrative for year three of Last Chance U will continue to develop throughout the season.

With the first two seasons of the show chronicling the highly successful football powerhouse at East Mississippi Community College, the series will now shift to an up-and-coming program in Independence, Kansas.

“This is a tremendous opportunity - a chance to showcase the best of Independence, both the college and the community, to a worldwide audience,” said Dr. Dan Barwick, ICC college president. “We’re proud to partner with a critically-acclaimed show.”

The Pirate's season kicks off 6:00 p.m. Saturday, August 26 with a home opener at Shulthis Stadium against Iowa Western.
