Board Votes for Contract Renewal for President Bowhay

At the regularly scheduled Independence Community College (ICC) Board of Trustees meeting on February 21, 2022, the Board voted to renew the contract of President Bowhay.

“The Board of Trustees is pleased to announce a contract extension for Dr. Vincent Bowhay,” said Dr Cynthia Sherwood, Board Chair. “Bowhay brings boundless energy that is combined with a long list of ideas on how to make ICC the best it can be. He has inspired everyone in the ICC family to be excited about the unlimited potential for Independence Community College.”

Dr. Bowhay was selected as president in April 2021 after serving as Vice President for Student Affairs. He joined the Independence community after a nationwide search for the position in November of 2019. Bowhay is the 16th president in college history.

His current initiatives include overseeing preparations for ICC’s comprehensive evaluation from the Higher Learning Commission this spring, receiving the $1,032,565 Rural Postsecondary and Economic Development grant from the U.S. Department of Education, and launching new student-focused initiatives including esports, powerlifting, and the Veteran Success Center.

Bowhay is one of 25 presidents nationwide selected for the Aspen New President’s Fellowship. ICC has seen a 9% enrollment increase during the first year of his presidency.

“I am incredibly humbled and grateful to the Independence Community College Board of Trustees for the confidence expressed in me and our outstanding leadership team. I thank them for their support,” said Bowhay. “I look forward to serving our amazing students and the outstanding citizens of Independence, Kansas, for years to come.”
