Steve Howe, EMS Education Director, interacts with students at Diversity in Tech Ed Day.
ICC’s West Campus played host to almost 50 area students during Diversity in Tech Ed Day, Friday, February 11. In conjunction with Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month, this event encouraged students to explore various technical program options while speaking to program directors and current students.
Students could get hands-on experience, allowing them to understand the college process and program requirements better. Program representatives also spoke about career opportunities within that degree program upon graduation.
“54% of jobs in Kansas require skills training,” explained Jaicey Gillum, Executive Director for Academic Outreach. “These jobs require more education than a high school diploma but less than a four-year degree. CTE programs are great because they help develop skilled workers who are ready to jump into the workforce.”
CTE programs directly prepare students for high-wage, high-demand careers. CTE programs at ICC cover various fields, including healthcare, vet nursing, information technology, cosmetology, and more.
