Theatre to Perform ‘Crimes of the Heart’

Independence Community College Fine Arts is excited to produce Beth Henley’s ‘Crimes of the Heart’, March 3-6, 2022, in the William Inge Theatre. Admission is free.

"The opportunity to direct Crimes of the Heart with this cast has been exciting," said Paul Molnar, Director. "There has been wonderful collaboration between the designers, actors, and crew."

Crimes of the Heart is a tragic comedy that focuses on betrayal, particularly the life-denying patriarch associated with the South. The play revolves around three sisters, Meg, Babe, and Lenny, reuniting at Old Grandaddy’s home in Hazlehurst, Mississippi, after Babe shoots her abusive husband. The sisters come from a dysfunctional family with a tendency to bring about distasteful predicaments.

“This play is so honest and open about the complexities of family and survival that it feels like a perfect Play. Beth Henley has a kindness and edge about her writing together at the same time,” explains Molnar. “Throughout the entire rehearsal process, I could not help but reflect on my own family, our losses, and the generational struggles that have led us all to where we are today. That is the sign of a well-crafted play; it hooks you, reels you in, and makes you look at your own life in ways that you may not have thought possible.”
