Independence Community College is pleased to honor Phillip Chappuie as the 2022 community recipient of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drum Major for Justice Award. The award recognizes individuals who consistently demonstrate greatness through service and love. The award is presented to one ICC Student, one ICC employee, and one Independence, KS community member. Chappuie was nominated for this honor by Bridget Carson, Associate Professor of Developmental English at ICC.
“Phillip has a vocal and expressive drive to create a sustainable community through responsible environmental management, systemic judicial reform, and investment in the public good,” explained Carson. “Phillip was the first person who came to mind when I read the description of this award. His career has been the work of including adults with special needs in our community, helping us to embrace and celebrate diversity.”
Chappuie was honored on Friday, January 28th, at the ICC Main Campus.
