Student Life

Campus Events

The Student Activities Director works closely with students and groups on campus to organize events for students on campus. We are always looking for great ideas from students on things they think the campus may enjoy. Over the years we have put on ping pong tournaments, video game tournaments, superbowl viewing parties, and many outdoor activities that our students can participate in. 

Community Pirate Partnership

A program dedicated to helping out of state students adjust to life in Southeast Kansas. This program partners new students with community members who will build relationships with students and help them adapt to life at ICC. Community members can take part in this program by applying online here.

Pep Band

Matt Carter

The ICC Pep band performs for football and basketball seasons. They perform in several parades including the Neewollah Grand Parade. The concert band rehearses during spring semester and performs at the spring music department concert. Soloists and small ensembles perform both fall and spring concerts.  Instrumentalists also have the opportunity to perform with musical theater productions.  

Student Ambassadors

The ICC Student Ambassadors are a select group of students who represent the school in many ways, such as hosting campus tours, acting as goodwill ambassadors to promote the best of ICC. Ten to fifteen students are chosen each fall to be Ambassadors based on their academic achievement, extracurricular activities, and a personal interview.

Phi Theta Kappa

Phi Theta Kappa is the largest honor society in American higher education with more than 2 million members and 1,200 chapters located in all 50 of the United States, U.S. territories, British Virgin Islands, Canada, Germany, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, United Arab Emirates and Palau. 

ICC's Beta Omega chapter was the first chapter formed in Kansas. Through our active participation in Phi Theta Kappa’s programs, we have a long, rich history in the organization. Fellowship, Scholarship, Leadership and Service opportunities are possible through participation in Phi Theta Kappa.

ICC Student Government Association

The Student Government Association allows a forum for all students to influence their environment. SGA serves as the official representative body for students, acting as a liaison between students and administration. Student Government may present formal resolutions to the administration recommending changes in the operation of the campus.  All students are eligible for membership in SGA.

Spirit Squad

The spirit squad and dance team represent ICC in all facets of sports and enthusiastically support all college activities in the community and on campus. Students are encouraged to contact the athletic depart- ment for information and scholarship opportunities.

Independence Community College is a proud member of the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference, widely known as the best community college athletic conference in the country. Pirate teams have enjoyed tremendous success through­out the years with numerous conference and national honors.   Athletic programs at ICC include football, men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, golf, base­ball, softball, as well as cheer and dance.

ICC's William Inge Center for the Arts, is Southeast Kansas' premier performing arts resource and is the home of the official theatre festival of the State of Kansas the annual William Inge Theatre Festival.
