Summer Financial Aid

The summer term at ICC serves as the conclusion (or "trailer") of the FAFSA aid year. To be considered for federal financial aid for the summer term, a valid FAFSA must be submitted on or before June 30, the final date allowed by the U.S. Department of Education. After this date, the application closes and cannot be accessed by the student or ICC.

Transfer students or those who have already completed a FAFSA must update their application to include Independence Community College (school code: 001924) in order for ICC to receive their information.

Students planning to live in on-campus housing during the summer term, including the July-only session, must be enrolled in 6 or more credit hours.

Year-Round Pell

Students who receive a Federal Pell Grant may be eligible for up to 150% of their scheduled award within an academic year. This means that, in addition to full-time Pell received during the fall and spring terms, students may receive additional Pell funds for the summer term—as long as they are enrolled at least half-time (6 or more credit hours).

Deadlines

Students must have submitted the FAFSA for the current aid year on or before June 30 to receive financial aid for the summer term. The application will be closed by the U.S. Department of Education after this date and cannot be accessed by the student or ICC.

Scholarship recipients must fulfill all scholarship requirements on or before the last day of the summer term.

All financial aid applicants must meet basic eligibility requirements on or before the last day of the summer term. This deadline is final, and no exceptions are granted by ICC.

Basic eligibility requirements include:

  • The receipt of a valid FAFSA with a calculated Expected Family Contribution (EFC)

  • The receipt of an official high school transcript or other proof of high school equivalency, dated within the student’s period of enrollment

  • The receipt of official college transcript(s) for any college previously attended, dated within the student’s period of enrollment. Regardless of whether credit was earned, official transcripts must be provided. Students cannot opt to exclude prior college history

  • Enrollment in and attendance of a financial aid-eligible program
