Scholarships

Paying for college doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Independence Community College and the ICC Foundation offer a wide range of scholarships to help ease the financial burden. Students are strongly encouraged to apply for all scholarships they may be eligible for, including Academic, Co-Curricular, Athletic, Foundation, and Local Resident awards.

Scholarship Policies

Application & Renewal

  • Scholarship applications are valid for one award year (August–July).

  • Scholarships do not automatically renew — a new application must be submitted each year.

Required Documents

  • All scholarship recipients must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

  • High school and official college transcripts must be on file before the add/drop date each semester.

    • It is the student’s responsibility to ensure transcripts are submitted to ICC.

    • All submitted records become the property of ICC and will not be returned.

Tentative Awards

  • Awards issued without official transcripts on file are considered tentative.

  • Final award amounts will be based on final cumulative GPA once transcripts are received.

Award Limits & Refunds

  • ICC Scholarships are non-refundable.

  • All federal and state grant aid is applied first before ICC scholarships are disbursed.

  • Students not living in ICC housing (Captain’s Quarters or Bricks) will receive no more than $500 per term, with no refunds issued.

Scholarship Adjustments

  • ICC may adjust scholarship amounts if a student receives additional financial aid after their ICC scholarship is awarded.

GPA Requirements

  • Academic and Co-Curricular recipients must maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA (evaluated each semester).

  • Students who fall below the 2.0 GPA will forfeit their scholarship.

Academic Scholarships

  • Awarded through the Office of Student Financial Aid.

  • Based on GPA, ACT/SAT scores, GED, or other high school equivalency exam scores.

  • High school seniors may receive a tentative offer based on 6th or 7th semester transcripts.

  • A scholarship application is required for consideration.

Residency Requirement

  • Students receiving academic, athletic, or co-curricular scholarships who live more than 50 miles from ICC must:

    • Live in on-campus housing and

    • Purchase a room and board plan.

  • To live off campus, students must request an exemption from the Vice President of Student Affairs.

    • If approved: Full scholarship awarded.

    • If not approved: Scholarship is limited to $500 per semester.

  • International students living with host families are exempt from this rule.

International Students

  • Eligible for the out-of-state portion of tuition — not the full international tuition rate.

  • Athletic international students may receive full international tuition coverage through the Athletic Department.

Certificate Scholarships

  • Must submit the original certificate to the Financial Aid Office.

  • A scholarship application and FAFSA are still required.

  • Students may keep the original certificate, which will be marked “Redeemed.” A copy will be retained by ICC.

Textbooks

  • Tuition scholarships include use of textbooks, but not:

    • Access codes

    • Workbooks

    • Lab books

    • Other consumables

Use of Funds

  • Scholarships may only be used for tuition or ICC room and board.

  • Scholarships do not cover fees.

Ineligible Students

  • Students with a Bachelor’s degree or higher are not eligible.

  • Students who received Academic Renewal at ICC are not eligible for academic scholarships.

  • Students in loan default are not eligible.

Summer Awards

  • First-time summer recipients must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours, unless:

    • They were full-time in both Fall and Spring, and

    • Used a scholarship in those semesters.

  • Academic Excellence is the only academic scholarship available in summer.

Montgomery County “Pirate” Scholarship

  • Cannot be combined with a Federal Pell Grant to generate a student refund.

New Scholarship Creation

  • All new scholarships must be requested through the Financial Aid Office and approved by the President.
