FAFSA Requirements & Deadlines at ICC
To be eligible for federal financial aid, Independence Community College (ICC) must receive a valid FAFSA—signed and with a calculated Expected Family Contribution (EFC)—on or before the last day of your enrollment.
Reminder: The FAFSA application officially closes on June 30 of the aid year. At ICC, the summer term marks the end (or "trailer") of the FAFSA year. Students enrolling in summer classes must ensure they have submitted the correct year’s FAFSA before the June 30 deadline.
Federal Student Aid Final Deadline
All required documents for verification or aid disbursement must be submitted to ICC's Office of Student Financial Aid no later than:
-
120 days after your last day of enrollment, or
-
By the federal deadline set by the U.S. Department of Education in September,
whichever date comes first.
If you are enrolled in summer, your final deadline to submit documents is the last day of the summer term.
Federal Student Loans
All loan eligibility requirements, including verification, must be completed by the last day of your enrollment.
Note: ICC cannot process federal student loans within the last two days of your final enrollment period.
Failure to meet these deadlines will result in no federal aid being disbursed.
Professional Judgment Requests
Requests for Professional Judgment (special circumstances) must be submitted with all required documentation on or before the last day of classes or the last day of the student’s enrollment, whichever comes later.

To be considered for a Federal Pell Grant, students selected for standard verification must submit verification documents to ICC no later than 120 days after the last date of enrollment for the award year; or by the published date set by the Department of Education in September (whichever is the earlier of the two dates). Failure to meet this deadline will result in no Federal Pell Grant being disbursed to the student.
All Other Federal Student Aid
To be considered for other Federal Student Aid, verification must be complete and aid eligibility determined no later than the last date of enrollment. Student loans cannot be processed within the last two days of your last date of enrollment. Failure to meet this deadline will result in no other Federal Student Aid being disbursed to the student.
Verification of Identity and Educational Purpose
To be considered for any Federal Student Aid, students selected for verification of Identity and Statement of Educational Purpose must submit verification documents to ICC within 60 days of the first date the student is requested to submit the documentation. Failure to meet this deadline will result in the student’s FAFSA being reported as ‘No Response’. A student’s verification status may be changed if verification documents are received no later than the last date of enrollment. Failure to meet this deadline will result in no Federal Student Aid being disbursed to the student.
