Mathematics and Physical Science
About Mathematics and Physical Science
The Mathematics and Physical Science program at Independence Community College offers courses in math, chemistry, and physics. The courses in these areas prepare students for university programs in any STEM field, including mathematics, engineering, chemistry, and physics. Studies in Mathematics and Physical Science emphasize analysis, problem solving, and critical thinking skills. This program prepares students for careers in occupations such as teaching, engineering, mathematics, chemistry, physics, meteorology, and any profession requiring strong background in mathematics or physical sciences.
Why ICC?
We have great lab infrastructure that gives student hands on experience with basic Physical Science (Physics and Chemistry) experiments. We have considerable size chemical inventory and lab equipment. Math and Science program offers various pre-requisite courses for Biology majors, premed, engineering and nursing and athletics students. ICC has on ground space observatory. This helps visualizing things at the space; astronomical distance away.
- Demonstrate appropriate mastery of the foundational aspects of differential and integral calculus necessary to transfer to a 4-year institution and achieve a degree in a STEM-related field.
- Explain the scientific method and discuss the basic concepts of physical science and/or chemistry in the broader context of science and a diverse society.
- Analyze a real-world problem, choose the appropriate mathematical construct for the problem at hand, and process the numeric, symbolic, and/or graphical information necessary to arrive at appropriate solutions/conclusions in real world applications.
- Demonstrate appropriate proficiency with the language of science, both through the student’s ability to understand and use the written and oral communications.
