About Biology
Studying Biology increases an understanding and appreciation of living organisms, their interactions with the environment, and interaction with each other. In addition, studying Biology fosters scientific thinking, reasoning, and problem-solving skills. Our program allows students to transfer to any Kansas Board of Regents affiliated University and many other 4-year colleges with their General Education requirements completed and the fundamental knowledge and technical skills needed to succeed in many Biology subdisciplines.
Why ICC?
Our program offers students the academic rigor, technology, and hands-on learning they would expect at a larger institution at a more affordable rate. Our low student-to teacher ratio allows students to get personal attention for both their educational and advisory needs. Our experienced faculty are highly trained and educated in diverse fields of Biology, yet their small-town backgrounds give them a deep understanding of the unique challenges facing rural and other underserved populations.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the major concepts of modern cellular biology, including cellular physiology, information flow, and reproduction.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the structure of the human body, and the functions of its various organ systems.
- Describe the unity and diversity of living species and their relationship with other terrestrial natural processes.
- Describe the characteristics of microorganisms and their impact on human health and well-being.
- Gain proficiency with common Biology-associated lab techniques and tools including molecular biology techniques, microscopy, dissection, and culturing techniques.
