About Long Term Care

The Long-Term Care Certificate program at Independence Community College prepares students to provide compassionate care and support for individuals with chronic illnesses, disabilities, or age-related conditions. Long-term care services include assistance with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, and toileting, as well as instrumental activities of daily living, including medication management and household tasks.

Students learn how to maintain or improve clients’ physical function and quality of life while gaining experience in various care settings, including nursing homes, assisted living communities, and in-home care. With the growing need for long-term care professionals due to an aging population and increased prevalence of chronic diseases, demand for trained caregivers is high.

Graduates of this program are eligible to pursue state certification and begin a rewarding career in the expanding health care field.

Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:

  1. 80% of students will be able to successfully pass the Kansas State Test for Certified Nurse Aide on their first attempt.
  2. Students will demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
