Cosmetology
Express your creativity and talent in the beauty industry. Our Cosmetology program consists of 1,500 clock hours of extensive hands-on and classroom learning. Independence Community College aligns curriculum with the Kansas State Board requirements for state licensure. Students are taught through a combination of lectures, demonstrations, and student participation supplemented with visual aids, student exercises, and student demonstrations.
ICC West Salon
Students in the Cosmetology program operate a salon at ICC West that serves the students, employees, and community.
About the Program
Cosmetology is made up of courses in Cosmetology, Nail Tech, and Instructor Training, and is dedicated to providing a solid foundation in the arts and disciplines of these subjects. This department offers students the options of either a three semester (50 credit) or two-year Associate of Applied Science Degree (65 credit).
The certificate permits the student to take a state Cosmetology Examination to obtain a license. After the student has completed 320 hours of schooling, appointments with clients may be scheduled to simulate a professional day in the typical salon.
The student interested in this program must meet the requirements of the Kansas State Board of Cosmetology and must pass the state examination before they can be issued a license to practice in the state of Kansas. All students enrolled in the Cosmetology program must meet the ICC admission guidelines.

Full-time Cosmetology classes start every August and must be completed in 3 semesters. Attendance is mandatory.
