The Independence Community College Foundation is proud to announce the establishment of the Trevor Joseph Martinez Memorial Scholarship, a new scholarship created to honor the memory and legacy of Trevor Joseph Martinez while supporting students who have demonstrated perseverance, personal growth, and a commitment to continuing their education.
Beginning in the 2026-2027 academic year, the scholarship will provide $500 per semester to eligible Independence Community College students. The scholarship is designed to assist students who have participated in programs that provide additional support and opportunities for success, including Bridges Academy, AVID, Sparkwheel, JAG-K, and Adult Education.
To be eligible, students must have successfully completed at least one full-time semester at Independence Community College, maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher, and submit a personal statement describing how they plan to use the education they are pursuing. Applicants must also provide a reference from a representative of one of the qualifying programs.
The scholarship reflects a commitment to recognizing students who have overcome challenges, embraced opportunities for growth, and remained dedicated to achieving their educational goals.
“This scholarship honors Trevor’s memory in a meaningful way by investing in students who have demonstrated resilience and determination in their educational journeys,” said Cody Oates, Executive Director of the Independence Community College Foundation. “We are grateful to the Martinez family for creating an opportunity that will encourage students to continue pursuing their goals while carrying forward Trevor’s legacy. Scholarships like this can make a lasting difference in a student’s life and remind them that their hard work and perseverance matter.”
The Independence Community College Foundation will administer the scholarship and select recipients based on the criteria established by the donor.
