Independence Community College is partnering with SparkWheel to expand support services for students through a new collaborative initiative designed to help students overcome barriers that may impact their ability to succeed in college.

The partnership will bring a dedicated SparkWheel Student Support Coordinator to ICC's campus beginning in the 2026-2027 academic year. Through a comprehensive support model, students will have access to additional resources, individualized assistance, and connections to community services that address both academic and non-academic challenges.

SparkWheel, a Kansas-based nonprofit organization, works alongside educational institutions to provide integrated student support services focused on student well-being, engagement, and success. Through the partnership, SparkWheel and ICC will collaborate to identify student needs, connect students with resources, and develop support strategies that help students persist and achieve their educational goals.

While student success is often measured in the classroom, many students face challenges outside of class that can impact their ability to stay enrolled and complete their education. The partnership aims to provide a coordinated approach to addressing those barriers while strengthening the network of support available to ICC students.

"At ICC, we recognize that student success extends beyond academics," said David Adams, Vice President for Student Affairs & Operations. "This partnership with SparkWheel allows us to take a more holistic approach to supporting our students by connecting them with resources, services, and individualized support that can help remove barriers and keep them focused on achieving their educational and career goals. We are excited to work alongside SparkWheel to create even more opportunities for our students to thrive."

The partnership aligns with ICC's commitment to student success and community collaboration by bringing together campus resources and community partners to support students throughout their educational journey.

Through regular assessments, strategic planning, and coordinated interventions, ICC and SparkWheel will work together to identify areas of need and develop solutions that strengthen student engagement, retention, and overall success.

"Student success is a shared responsibility," Adams said. "By combining the strengths of ICC, SparkWheel, and our community partners, we can create a support system that helps students overcome obstacles and reach their full potential."
