Independence Community College and the City of Independence are partnering to bring Pirate Softball to the new Central Park Sports Complex, creating a new home for the program while strengthening the connection between the college and the community.
Through the partnership, the ICC Softball team will utilize Central Park Sports Complex for practices and home competitions, giving student-athletes access to the new facility while bringing collegiate softball into the heart of Independence.
For ICC, the move provides an opportunity to make Pirate Softball even more accessible to the community and gives fans, families and local residents another reason to experience the new complex.
“Independence has always been home for the Pirates, and we’re excited for our softball program to have the opportunity to play right in the heart of the community,” ICC Athletic Director Melissa Anderson said. “Central Park gives our fans, families and community members an accessible place to come out and support our student-athletes, while allowing Pirate Softball to be an even more visible part of the community we’re proud to represent.”
The partnership also supports the City of Independence’s vision for Central Park Sports Complex as a facility that serves the community and creates opportunities for recreation, competition and connection.
“The Central Park Sports Complex was built to be a community asset—a place that brings people together, creates opportunities and gives our community something to be proud of,” said Lacey Lies, City of Independence, Finance Director. “Having ICC Softball call CPSC home puts that vision into action, creating more opportunities to use this incredible facility while strengthening the connection between ICC and the Independence community.”
The partnership reflects the longstanding relationship between Independence Community College and the community it has called home for nearly a century. By bringing Pirate Softball to Central Park, ICC and the City of Independence are creating another opportunity for students and community members to come together while maximizing the use of one of the community’s newest recreational assets.
