Pirate Spirit Teams Capture Grand Champion Title at Region 6 Competition
The Independence Community College Spirit Teams delivered a standout performance at the Region 6 Competition, earning multiple top finishes and securing the coveted Grand Champion title in a dominant showing against some of the region’s top programs.
Fueled by months of preparation, early mornings, and relentless attention to detail, the Pirates rose to the occasion across all divisions:
- 1st Place – Game Day
- 1st Place – Coed Partner
- 3rd Place – Pom
With standout performances across divisions, ICC earned the highest overall score of the entire competition with its Game Day performance, securing the Grand Champion title and solidifying its place at the top of the field. A testament to the team’s depth, versatility, and competitive drive.
Head Coach Erica Cope emphasized the significance of the accomplishment and the work behind it:
“I couldn’t be more proud of this team, not just for what they accomplished on the floor, but for the commitment, resilience, and heart they’ve shown all season,” Cope said. “These athletes have put in countless hours behind the scenes, pushing through challenges and supporting one another every step of the way. To see that hard work pay off with these finishes and a Grand Champion title is incredibly special. They truly earned this, and I’m so proud to be their coach.”
For sophomore Hailey Shipley, who competed as part of the first-place Coed Partner team, the moment was both rewarding and emotional.
“This weekend meant everything to us,” Shipley said. “We’ve put in so many hours perfecting our routines and pushing each other to be better. To see it all come together and bring home first place…and Grand Champion…was such an incredible feeling. I’m so proud of this team and what we’ve accomplished together.”
The Region 6 Competition brings together elite collegiate cheer and dance programs from across Kansas and surrounding states, making ICC’s performance a powerful statement on the regional stage.
Beyond the podium finishes, the Pirates showcased the energy, school pride, and unity that define ICC Spirit. Their success reflects not only athletic excellence but also the culture of accountability and support that continues to drive the program forward.
With this milestone achievement, the ICC Spirit Teams continue to build momentum and set a high standard as they represent Independence Community College with passion and pride.
