At Independence Community College, learning extends beyond the classroom.

Through a series of career-readiness scholarship opportunities, ICC students are gaining hands-on experience, developing professional skills, and building portfolios that help prepare them for future careers while completing their education.

Students participating in programs such as the Foundation Scholarship, Sports Information Scholarship, Pirate Fanatics Scholarship, and Entrepreneurial & Marketing Scholarship have opportunities to work alongside faculty and staff on meaningful projects that contribute to campus and community initiatives.

These experiences provide practical training in areas including philanthropy, athletic communications, photography, videography, social media management, event planning, community outreach, marketing, and leadership. Students are able to apply what they learn in the classroom to real-world situations while building professional portfolios and workplace skills.

"At ICC, we believe some of the most valuable learning happens when students can apply classroom knowledge in real-world settings," said Taylor Crawshaw, Interim President. "These opportunities allow students to develop professional skills, gain practical experience, and build confidence while creating work they can showcase to future employers, internship programs, and transfer institutions."

Through these experiences, students collaborate with campus departments, assist with special events and projects, create marketing and communications materials, support community engagement efforts, and develop skills that are highly valued in today's workforce.

By combining academic learning with hands-on experience, ICC is helping students graduate with more than a degree. They leave with a demonstrated record of achievement, practical experience, and a stronger foundation for career success.
