The Independence Community College (ICC) Fab Lab invites the community to experience innovation in action during its Open House: Inside the Makerspace event on Thursday, November 6, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at 3884 CR 3730 in Independence.

The event offers a behind-the-scenes look at ICC’s nationally recognized Fab Lab, where creativity meets cutting-edge technology. Guests will have the opportunity to explore the space, watch live demonstrations, and learn how community members, students, and entrepreneurs can bring their ideas to life using the Lab’s wide range of tools and equipment.

Event Highlights

Equipment Demos:

Attendees can see the latest technology in action during live demonstrations by ICC Fab Lab experts, who will showcase equipment and answer questions about the Lab’s fabrication capabilities.

Free Pet Tag:

Visitors can design and create their own custom pet tag for their dog, cat, or sheep using the Lab’s laser engraver—free of charge.

Raffle:

Guests can sign in upon arrival to be entered into a raffle for a chance to win a custom-designed item of their choice, such as a cutting board, laser-engraved tumbler, or 3D-printed piece.

“The Fab Lab is one of the most unique community spaces in Southeast Kansas,” said David Staton, Fab Lab Manager. “This open house gives people the chance to see how accessible and hands-on the technology really is, whether you’re a student, hobbyist, or local business owner.”

The event is free and open to the public. To learn more, visit www.fablabicc.org/events or call (620) 332-5618.
