Independence Community College (ICC) Theatre will host the 23rd Annual 24-Hour Plays on December 5–6, bringing together students from area high schools to write, rehearse, and perform a collection of original short plays, all created within just one day.

The 24-Hour Plays® is an internationally recognized program that challenges participants to collaborate creatively under a time limit, inspiring fast thinking, team-building, and artistic confidence. ICC is proud to be one of the continuing host sites for the event, which engages young artists from across the region.

Over the course of 24 hours, student participants will take on roles including playwriting, acting, assistant directing, and technical production, working closely with ICC theatre students, faculty, and staff. Once completed, the new works will debut in a free public performance on Saturday, December 6 at 7:00 p.m. in the William Inge Theatre on the ICC campus.

“Local high school students will have the opportunity to write, rehearse, and perform completely new plays all within one day,” said Cooper Sivara, ICC Theatre Director. “Students can gain experience in playwriting, acting, assistant directing, and technical roles as they collaborate with ICC students, faculty, and staff. The creative process culminates in a public performance celebrating everyone's work at 7 p.m. on December 6 in the William Inge Theatre. Join us for a fun, creative, and all-encompassing journey as we put the phrase ‘the show must go on’ into practice!”

The event is presented under license from The 24 Hour Plays®, which produces premiere rapid-response theater events around the world. For more information about the national organization, visit 24hourplays.org.
