Independence Community College Upward Bound Program

Upward Bound is a college preparatory program and is part of TRIO, a Department of Education grant funded program. The mission of the Independence Community College Upward Bound Program is to empower 60 participants from 8 target schools in Chautauqua, Labette, Montgomery, and Wilson Counties with the academic skills and motivation necessary to succeed and graduate from high school, and enter and complete a postsecondary education program earning an associates or bachelor degree from an accredited college. In order to meet its commitment for student success, the Upward Bound Program recruits qualified students who meet grant guidelines and provides tutoring, personal, career and academic counseling to students on a continuous basis throughout the academic year and summer component. Saturday Academies are provided monthly during the academic year to enrich the students’ school curriculum. A six-weeks summer component is conducted to provide students with an intense academic and cultural experience, while preparing them for college life.
