Independence Community College Upward Bound Program

Upward Bound is a college preparatory program and is part of TRIO, a Department of Education grant-funded program. The mission of the Independence Community College Upward Bound Program is to empower 65 participants from 8 target schools with the academic skills and motivation necessary to graduate from high school and complete a postsecondary education program from an accredited college. In order to meet its commitment for student success, the Upward Bound Program recruits qualified students who meet grant guidelines.  Upward Bound provides tutoring, academic advising, college visits, career exploration, cultural enrichment, and more. Saturday Seminars are provided monthly during the academic year to enrich the students’ school curriculum. A six-week summer component is also conducted to provide students with an intense academic and cultural experience, while preparing them for college life.
