Sophomore Theatre Students
Return from Chicago
The Independence Community
College Theatre students and
faculty traveled to Chicago to
audition and submit technical
portfolios for theater positions
in some of the most widely
respected theatre college
programs in the country.
The trip to the National Unified
Auditions is an annual event for
ICC theatre majors in their
second year at ICC. The
auditions were held January 31st
through February 4th. The
trip is annually sponsored by
the ICC Repertory student
organization through fund
raising.
Previous ICC theatre alumni have
garnered scholarships to schools
such as DePaul, Boston
Conservatory, The Hartt School
of Theatre, and others.
Sophomores participating were:
Jeff Shallington, Jen Layton,
Jerica Hucke and Connie
Cartwright.
While in Chicago, the students
also saw the award-winning
production of David Mamet’s
American Buffalo at the
prestigious Steppenwolf Theatre.
The ICC theatre students are
currently in rehearsal for
Nickel and Dimed by Joan Holden,
directed by Carissa Thorlakson.
Based on the book by Barbara
Eisenreich, the play explores
how women in low-salary jobs
survive in a complex world. The
show will be performed in the
Inge Theatre on February 25-28.
In April, the theatre program
will present the Pulitzer
Prize-winning “How I Learned to
Drive” by this year’s Inge
Festival honoree Paula Vogel.
The show will be directed by
Professor Jon Sidoli.
