and community members
will be celebrating

October 6-9, with a
myriad of activities and
events culminating with
the Pirate Football game
against the Air Force at
7 p.m. on Saturday night
at Shultis Stadium in
Riverside Park.
The newest event added
to this year’s
celebration is a special

Friends of the
community. This free
event is being held in
the ICC Student Union.

the homecoming
entertainment Saturday
morning, a student
fashion show featuring
the latest in ‘Pirate
Wear’ from the ICC
College Bookstore will
be held in the
cafeteria.
At 10 a.m. Saturday
morning a special
lecture series on local
and area history will be
conducted by two of
ICC’s esteemed faculty
members, Dr. Isaias
McCaffery and Associate
Professor Marsh Hayes.
Both have done extensive
historical research and
are popular speakers on
the subject. The
lectures will be given
in the Fireside Room of
the Student Union. This
is also a free event for
the public.
Each day of Spirit Week
will involve various
activities on campus as
students participate in
dress up Days. Beginning
with Monday’s Inside-Out
Day, Tuesday was Pajama
Day, Wednesday is deemed
Wacky/Tacky (clashing
clothes) Day, Thursday
is wear your favorite
Sports Day, and is

and Gold Day.
Independence Community
College will host a
professional Comedy
Night as part of
Homecoming festivities
in October. The Comedy
Cabaret Tour will appear
on campus on Thursday,
October 9th
at 8 p.m. for ICC and
community members.

will be Lav Luv with the
talents of B rich of
Kansas City, Mo., who
has been on comic view
three times and toured
with Eddie griffin, and
C Dawg of Atlanta. C
appeared on comic view
five times and is a
member of Uptown Comedy
Club Improv Group.
The
Independence Community
College Theatre
Department and Student
Repertory presents a
remarkable hour of
theater in “Far Away,”
by Caryl Churchill, from
October 9-12. In just
60 minutes, “Far Away”
asks profound questions
about the consequences
of conformity, conflict
and the future of
society, and stretches
our notions of what
theatre can be. “Far
Away” draws disturbingly
on our recent memories
of conflict and combines
this with an Alice in
Wonderland-fantasy world
in which the familiar is
made strange and the
strange, familiar.
Curtain time is 7:30
p.m. Thursday through
Saturday October 9-11,
and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday
October 12, at the
William Inge Theatre.
Admission is $5 for
adults and $2 for
students, with ICC
students and staff
free. It is recommended
for teens and above.
Friday culminates the
school week on campus
with a Pep Rally at 2:15
pm in the gym followed
by a first time ever
event. The students,
staff and community
participants will
participate in a Snake
Dance through downtown
Independence. The
sidewalk parade will
originate on South Penn
and Main streets.
Everyone is welcome
participate and cheer on
the students and team as
they throw out Pirate
beads, footballs and
Homecoming T-Shirts.
